The Birth of the Brand (2005)

In 2005, in the birthplace of Jian ware—Nanping City, Fujian, a traditional pottery master, driven by a deep love for Song Dynasty culture, decided to revive the ancient ceramic art of Jian Zhan. Once highly prized during the Song Dynasty for its unique glaze and kiln effects, Jian Zhan gradually faded from the public eye over time. To bring this lost craft back to life, the master founded Teaware Studios, a brand with the mission of "heritage and innovation," aiming to blend ancient culture with modern lifestyles.

Tradition and Innovation

At the inception of Teaware Studios, the founder delved deeply into the traditional techniques of Song Dynasty Jian Zhan, seeking advice from master craftsmen and referencing numerous ancient texts to faithfully recreate the Song-era aesthetic while incorporating modern design elements. Building on traditional firing methods, they introduced innovative kiln temperature control techniques to ensure that each piece perfectly captures the desired glaze, texture, and feel.

The brand made bold innovations in craftsmanship, redesigning the shape and functionality of Jian Zhan to suit not only traditional tea-drinking rituals but also modern daily life. Through continuous experimentation, they explored a wide variety of glaze effects, such as the iconic "hare's fur," "oil spot," and "yao bian" (iridescent) patterns, giving each piece a unique vibrancy and life.

Brand Growth (2005-2015)

From its founding in 2005, Teaware Studios gradually expanded, attracting a loyal following of tea culture enthusiasts and ceramic art collectors. Over the next decade, the brand gained recognition by participating in both domestic and international craft exhibitions, earning acclaim from experts and collectors alike. Its products not only gained prominence in the Chinese market but also reached international audiences in Japan, Korea, and Europe, becoming a key vessel for cross-cultural tea culture exchange.

To ensure quality, Teaware Studios strictly adhered to using natural mineral resources in the production process, meticulously controlling every step to guarantee that each Jian Zhan piece flawlessly reflects the unique charm of ancient craftsmanship. At the same time, the brand established pottery workshops to teach younger generations the techniques of Jian Zhan making, nurturing new artisans and promoting the sustainable development of traditional craftsmanship.

Blending with Modern Culture (2016 to Present)

In 2016, Teaware Studios embarked on a new chapter. While staying true to its traditional roots, the brand began collaborating with contemporary designers and artists to explore new possibilities for Jian Zhan in modern life. This included launching limited-edition artistic Jian Zhan collections through partnerships with fashion brands and creating a minimalist, art-inspired home tea set series, blending ancient aesthetics with modern practicality. The brand’s products became more than just tea vessels; they symbolized a lifestyle, uniquely fusing classical elegance with modern design.

Moreover, Teaware Studios actively participated in various tea culture events and art exhibitions, promoting Chinese tea culture and helping more people discover and appreciate the beauty of Jian Zhan. Through a combination of online and offline sales channels, the brand quickly expanded its market influence, forming a dedicated customer base. For each tea lover using a Jian Zhan, it’s not only about drinking tea but also experiencing a slice of history and admiring the craftsmanship’s unique aesthetic.
